This group of 4 plates merits a closer look: Marie Antoinette, featured on the first plate, disappears and re-emerges in the second two. This is a visual commentary on how an object may be created to represent an individual and yet can come to define their identity. In this series of plates, foreground and background battle to gain visual dominance just as individuals struggle to project their identity through the objects they acquire, yet not be defined by them.
